
JPLC invite you to join a friendly networking cycle ride on Friday 18 September.
Starting in Reading at 11am, we will head up over the Chilterns, primarily on quiet small roads for a gentle 3-hour ride (50-60 kilometres).We will ride as one group at the pace of the slowest rider and stop for a leisurely lunch towards the top of the Chilterns, before descending into Oxford and ending in the New College gardens before 16.00.
A luggage transfer and light support van will accompany us, and they can return your bicycle to London to a secure location if desired.
Please register your interest by – deadline for confirmation is July 31st.
There is likely to be a support fee of c£50 to cover Ride Support and bicycle return to London, to be confirmed.
Details
- We ride as one group, at the pace of the slowest rider, or in small groups. This is not a race. It is safer and good for the networking to ride as a group.
- Distance is c 50-60k, 400m elevation gain, (a gentle 3-hour ride, with hills), route to be provided closer to the date.
- Helmets mandatory.Road, gravel or light hybrid bike recommended - cleats optional but useful.
- Start in Reading at 11at, where you arrive with your bicycle and your conference luggage. Bikes are allowed on the mainline slow trains and the Elizabeth line at this time of day.
- Ride support collect our luggage.They will drive near us throughout for basic mechanical support, water and snacks, and a friendly face to help.
- Arrive at New College between 15-16.00 - photos on arrival.
- Riders have a choice of handing bike over to Ride Support who will drive the bikes to London and leave in a secure location (office basement to be agreed) or riders can keep their bike, arranging storage at the conference & arrange how to return home.
- If we are unlucky and there are major thunderstorms or dangerous winds, ride to be cancelled for health and safety reasons.

Cycling is a potentially dangerous activity and all riders take part at their own risk.
All riders must ensure that their bicycles are in a roadworthy condition before the start of the event, and obey the Highway Code.
It is mandatory to wear an approved cycling helmet at all times while riding. Riders are also encouraged to have suitable hi-viz clothing (gilet or waterproof jacket) and lights if weather or visibility conditions deteriorate.
The Joint Planning Law Conference cannot be held liable for injury, loss and damage caused or sustained as a result of taking part, howsoever arising, nor can they accept any liability for any changes made to either ride for safety reasons, or as otherwise planned through circumstances beyond their control.
All riders are advised to obtain personal accident insurance as well as adequate material loss / damage insurance cover in respect of your bicycle and personal property and any loss or injury you may cause to a third party. Cover for bicycles whilst in use or transit is also NOT included (check your household policy first to see if your bicycle is covered).
